Characterization of the palaeoenvironmental conditions in the Pannonian Basin during the last 34 mys related to the formation of haematitic and kaolinitic sedimentary rocks

Abstract The Pannonian Basin is a sediment-filled back-arc basin which was formed during the Late Paleogene–Neogene period. Such sedimentary rocks like bauxites or kaolinites, are important with regard to industry in region, products of former weathering processes. However, our knowledge about palaeoenvironmental conditions led formation these mineral resources has not yet been integrated. For this purpose, biomes, climatic classes as well karstification, and paedogenic processes were investigated over last 34 mys using southeastern regions China United States climatically analogous regions. By second half Oligocene, intensive chemical ceased exist Basin, enabled lateritic earlier periods. up mid-Serravallian Stage, karstification haematite-rich ultisols alfisols continued when humid subtropical came about. modelled biomes indicate that aridification Early Middle Miocene less dense vegetation, exacerbating re-deposition products.
